15TH, 16TH, 17TH AUGUST 2019

Glastonbury evokes the Spirit of Britain’s Great Artist, Poet and Avatar in an illuminating three days of Word, Picture and Song. An Open-Hearted Community Celebration for All, whether you are new to the work of William Blake or a long standing admirer.

Events will take place through 15TH to 17TH AUGUST in various locations around Glastonbury Town: The Market Cross, Glastonbury Abbey, Glastonbury Town Hall, and Glastonbury Assembly Rooms. These will feature YOU! – Anyone who would like to read a poem/be involved! Please send us a message.

We have top speakers sharing their wisdom about the great artist and wordsmith and a fantastic line up of brilliant Glastonbury musicians and performers, along with wonderful guests from London and Europe.

Blake poetry at the Market Cross. Come and recite your favourite!
If you know which poem you would like to read, please send us a message as soon as possible so that we can book in your slot.
You do not need to be an expert! This is an interactive community recital for EVERYONE to have fun with, to enjoy, to get to know Blake’s poems better.
Free event.

FRI 16TH, 11AM
Blake’s words on King Arthur recited in Glastonbury Abbey by the tomb. Usual Abbey entrance fee applies.

FRI 16TH, 7.30PM:
Town Hall: Memory of a Free Festival: The Flying Saucer Vision.
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the free festival that inspired David Bowie’s UFOlogical anthem. Author, Paul Weston will give a presentation on psychedelic Earth Mysteries UFOlogy, which will include Glastonbury visionary Gino Gennaro’s encounter with Venusian fairies on the Tor that inspired his Blake-illustrated book.
The Mystics of Avalon will perform a musical set that will conclude Friday with the Bowie song.

SAT 17TH:
1PM – 5PM:
Assembly Rooms: An afternoon of music and surprises, including Blake’s Chaucer – An illuminating talk by Peter Fraser.

‘William Blake was, and is, important as an artist, a poet, a moral philosopher and as a critic, both of art and of literature. Not only was he exceptional in all these fields and not only are they are all to be found in all his work, but they are to be found complete in everything he did, however minor.
Nowhere is this as clear as it is in his work on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. This centres on a substantial painting, his engraving of it, the largest plate he engraved, and the writing in “The Descriptive Catalogue” where almost as much space is given to this one painting as to the other fifteen in the exhibition.
By looking at these it is possible to readily understand many aspects of Blake’s amazing and complex philosophy’.

During Saturday afternoon we will also welcome Blake Bloc’s Stephen Micalef, plus further special guests.

8PM (Doors open at 7pm):
An evening of musical surprises during which Artists and Musicians will perform the poems of William Blake set to extraordinary music.

Tickets will be on sale from Friday 2nd August from
Labyrinth Books, 24 High Street, Glastonbury.

The recommended ticket is the all-in weekend ticket which gives access to Friday evening’s UFOlogy/Free Festival Talk at Glastonbury Town Hall, to all events on Saturday afternoon at Assembly Rooms AND to the full music event on Saturday evening. Individual tickets (per talk/event) are also available.

FULL WEEKEND TICKET: £20
This covers entry to all events – except for the reading at the Abbey at 11am on Friday morning for which usual Abbey entry fee applies.
